Molly was found by a kindhearted man. She had been neglected, and left in a basement in filthy conditions. The collar around her neck was too tight, had worn away the fur and left a permanent dent in her skin. One leg was twisted and she limped from nails that had never been trimmed. The kind man couldn't keep her so he called Petco.
Ron and I met Anita Baker (the Skokie Petco Manager) by accident when she was training a couple of months ago at the store in Schaumburg.
Ron and I were there shopping with some of our ferrets and one of them (Hairy) is adrenal. Bob Burghacher (the Schaumburg Petco Manager) said he had someone in back he wanted to show that ferret. This is why we bring a mix of "Adventure Ferrets" so people (store staff included) can see various illnesses, etc, and be educated. Anita came out and met us and I gave her my card. I told her when she was settled in to call me and we would do a Meet The Ferrets at her store. From that, she knew the GCFA existed and knew who to call when Molly was brought there.
Anita called me on May 19th and I emailed our Rescue Tree of volunteers. Julie Wiley quickly responded and we worked out a pickup of the ferret. The drop off and pick up needed to be carefully coordinated as that particular Petco is not equipped for ferrets.
Julie picked up the little ferret (now named Molly "Wobbles"). Julie brought Molly to her home, gave her a good meal, a bath, ear cleaning, and trimmed her very long nails. Molly spent the night with Julie and her ferrets and was brought to the shelter the next day.
Molly (who nolonger "Wobbles") found her forever home on July 8th with Volunteer, Dawn Guerra. Molly joins a wonderful family of 4 other ferrets.
This is why we Volunteer and why we do Meet The Ferrets events. If you want to be part of the GCFA In Action, please contact me at kim.crivello@gcfa.com. Today, you can make a difference.
